For the week of December 10th, 2023 here are a few Cowboy State news items of interest:
The Star Valley Independent published an article on December 12th about the need to transfer Wyoming prison inmates to a Mississippi facility due to staffing shortages within the Wyoming Department of Corrections. You can read the full article here.
On Friday, December 15th, a Federal Judge blocked a motion to halt the reintroduction of grey wolves in the State of Colorado. Colorado’s wolf reintroduction program was passed in 2020 via Proposition 114 (by a slim 50.91% to 49.09% margin). Now ranchers on both sides of the Wyoming/Colorado border are bracing for implementation of the plan which has a deadline of December 31st to initiate the first round of wolf releases. While the winter solstice is still a few days away on December 21st, it’s interesting to note that here in Star Valley Ranch we have already had our earliest sunset of the year. The sun started setting at 4:49pm on December 3rd, however, today on December 16th it will set at 4:50pm according to the Time and Date website after reviewing data for our Town Hall location. Many towns in Wyoming have also already experienced their earliest sunsets of the year. Read more in this Cowboy State Daily article.
Thanks for reading. Have a good week ya’ll!
