A quick note to let folks know I’m taking a couple of weeks off. So, you won’t receive another Around the 307 email post until the end of July. See you then!
For now, here are Cowboy State news items of interest for the week of July 7th, 2024:
Wednesday, July 10th, the State of Wyoming celebrated its 134th birthday! Historically, some five generations ago, President Benjamin Harrison signed the Wyoming Statehood Act into law on July 10th, 1890, making the Cowboy State the 44th state in the union. Known as the Equality State, Wyoming has achieved a lot of firsts over the years—first to grant women the right to vote, first National Park (Yellowstone), first National Monument (Devils Tower), first woman governor, and the list goes on. Check out this article in the Star Valley Independent that celebrates Wyoming’s 134th birthday and also provides more history on the Cowboy State.
Thursday, July 11th the Jackson Hole News & Guide (JHN&G) published this story announcing Jackson local, Reagan Akhtar, will take over as the new spokeswomen for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD). Also recently, in more WGFD news, Governor Mark Gordon appointed Angi Bruce as the first female director in the 51-year history of the agency. Bruce will assume the role after current WGFD Director Brian Nesvick retires this September. Read more about Bruce in this article also published in the JHN&G.

Also on July 11th, Cowboy State Daily published this article on the demise of the Marbleton post office in Sublette County. Seems that a 17-year-old boy stole a truck towing a fifth-wheel gooseneck trailer. The teen then attempted a 90-degree turn at high-speed. I’m sure you can guess the outcome. While the post office is a total loss, the teen miraculously survived.

That’s all for today buckaroos! Thanks for reading, have a great week, and I’ll be back at the end of the month!
