A handful of Wyoming news items of interest from the week of March 16th, 2025:
Monday, March 17th was St. Patrick’s Day! In the United States, St. Patrick’s Day is an overall celebration of Irish culture. The origins of the holiday date back to religious services and feasts held in homage to Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, who died on March 17th, 461. Locally, here’s a story published in Buckrail about the Town of Jackson’s namesake, David “Davey” Jackson, whose lineage can be traced to the Emerald Isle. Sláinte!

On Wednesday, March 19th Cowboy State Daily published this article on the race to the finish line for a contest that has entrants try to guess the date when a lonely stop sign near Togwotee Pass will become completely buried by snow. The annual Stop Sign Snow Challenge sponsored by the Wind River Outdoor Company has been in existence since 2017. This year, as the contest closing date of April 1st looms, there are roughly 80 entrants (out of about 500) still in the game. Guess we’ll see what this weekend’s snowfall may bring. The 2026 Stop Sign Snow Challenge will open in October 2025, so mark your calendars!

And to finish off the week, this morning (March 22nd) just before 8am there was a large power outage in western Wyoming across three counties and affecting all of Star Valley, Jackson, and Bondurant. Fortunately, Lower Valley Energy (LVE) was able to restore power in a few hours with the lights coming back on around 11am. The Star Valley Independent published this short news article about the wide-reaching LVE outage. Thanks LVE for getting the power back on so quickly!

That’s all for today cowpokes! Thanks for reading and have a great week!
