For the week of June 9th, 2024 here are a handful of Cowboy State news items you may find of interest:
On Monday, June 10th, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the start of construction on the Natrium Reactor 1 Demonstration Project just south of Kemmerer. The nuclear facility has been in the engineering and planning phases since November 2021. President and CEO of TerraPower, Chris Levesque, and chairman Bill Gates along with Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and others were on hand to toss the ceremonial first shovels of earth. Read more about the event here in the Star Valley Independent.

Tuesday, June 11th the Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded a $430,000 emergency bid to Evans Construction to build a temporary detour around the Highway 22 landslide, dubbed the Big Fill Slide, at mile marker 12.8 on Teton Pass. You can read the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) press release here. Amazingly, weather permitting WYDOT and Evans Construction expect to have the detour in place within two weeks! Fingers-crossed!

And on Thursday, June 13th, Cowboy State Daily published this article about a man from Washington State who received a seven day jail sentence for leaving the boardwalk to get a better photo at Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park (YNP). Nice to see justice being served for a change! Ah yes, the tourist season is in high gear. If you are a Facebook user, you may want to check out the group page called Yellowstone National Park: Invasion of The Idiotsâ„¢! The posts from group members documenting tourist antics at YNP run the gamut from hilarious, to sad, to are you kidding me?, to downright infuriating.
That’s all for today cowpokes! Stay safe out there and thanks for reading. Have a great week!
