Here’s your Star Valley Ranch news roundup for the week of September 15th, 2024:
Tuesday, September 17th at 6pm the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) Board of Directors (BoD) conducted a workshop at Cedar Creek Center. You can find the meeting agenda here.
Although I was not able to attend, one item of interest from the agenda was discussion of Silver Star Communications’ fiber-optic network installation efforts in Star Valley. If any readers were present at the meeting and can provide any details on installation dates for Star Valley Ranch (SVR), if those were indeed discussed, please let me know and I’ll be sure to share a note in an upcoming SVR News Roundup post. In the meantime, you can visit this Silver Star Fiberhood Project webpage to learn more about fiber-optic installation in our area.
Also on Tuesday, September 17th at 7pm a “Meet the Candidates" event was held at the SVRA Barn featuring the individuals running for TSVR’s two open Council seats. Duke Dance from Star Valley Independent Media moderated the event. The four candidates on the hot-seat (in alphabetical order) were: Taylor Ellis, Martin Occhi, Lars Robinson, and Katie Toolson. [Last month Close to Home 307 posted candidate bio and platform statements, you can read those at the following link: Town Council Candidates.] The “Meet the Candidates" event was very well run by Duke although not as well attended by residents as I would have hoped (I counted about 45-50 people in the Barn). The event got started with each candidate providing an opening statement followed by answers to three questions posed by the TSVR Council. The remainder of the evening consisted of questions posed by the audience via text; Duke read as many of these text questions as possible during the meeting timeframe. You can watch a video recording of the entire “Meet the Candidates” event posted to the TSVR YouTube page by clicking on the embed below.
Note a question was posed via text to the Town Council candidates asking where they stand on allowing chickens at Star Valley Ranch. You can scroll forward to about the 40 minute mark in the video to hear responses to this particular question.
And, you can still cast your vote in the chicken poll by visiting the SVR News Roundup from the week of August 25th—cluck here and scroll to the bottom of the page.
Thursday, September 19th at 1pm the TSVR Water Utility Board (WUB) met at Town Hall. I don’t have any additional notes to share as I did not attend the meeting, however, here’s a link to the agenda and discussion topics.
Also on Thursday, September 19th at 7pm the SVRA BoD conducted their regular monthly meeting at Cedar Creek Center. Here’s a link to the agenda along with a few notes:
The SVRA Chairman noted the Green Canyon water line project is now scheduled to get underway the first week in November.
There will not be a Haunted Barn this year as part of the SVRA’s planned Halloween holiday activities.
A lease addendum was approved by the SVRA BoD to allow the Pizza Shack at the Ranch to continue operations during the winter months.
The first draft of the SVRA 2025 Operating Budget will be available to residents via the SVRA website on October 4th.
Saturday September 21st the TSVR Ranch Rendezvous Market took place in the Town Hall parking lot. An abundance of delicious food, produce, and handmade goods were on display and I am pleased to report there was no shortage of shoppers!
Only one more Ranch Rendezvous Market date remains this season on September 28th, so be sure mark your calendars and come check out all the great things our local town market has to offer next Saturday! You’ll be glad you did!
Other news and notes from the week:
The TSVR Water Improvement Project 2023 (WIP 2023) is winding down for the year with a couple of cul-de-sac tie-ins to accomplish next week. The contractor Avail Valley Construction is on track to complete WIP 2023 next year in October 2025.
Note that tomorrow, Monday, September 23rd, construction crews will move to the intersection at Vista Drive and Vista East Drive. The roads will be closed with a detour sending traffic to Vista West Drive. Vista West Drive will be open to Green Canyon Drive and Star Peaks Way.
And, lastly—a quick update from last week’s SVR News Roundup post in regard to the Town of Thayne’s Sixth Penny Tax Open House on September 18th. Regrettably, scheduling difficulties prevented representatives from TSVR attending this open house as previously planned. I did, however, hear from a resident who attended the open house that it was very well done with lots of information on various Sixth Penny tax initiatives presented from around the valley.
Here’s a look at sparse calendar items for next week:
Wednesday, September 25th at 5pm the TSVR Planning and Zoning Board will meet at Town Hall.
Thursday, September 26th from 1:30pm to 4:30pm there will be a flu shot clinic at Town Hall.
Saturday, September 28th from 8am to 11am the Ranch Rendezvous Market will hold its final event of the season in the Town Hall parking lot. Please stop by to support the market and the vendors if you haven’t done so already! Thank you!
Final thoughts—fall is really coming on strong now! The SVR Trail Crew is getting some awesome photographs as they are out working hard to keep our trails in amazing condition and also prepare trailheads for winter snow-plowing. Check out the stunning photo they shared with me below! Wow! I hope all of you are finding some time to spend outdoors now that the air is getting crisp and the leaves are blazing away. What a beautiful place we live in. I am more thankful each day. Enjoy the season y’all.
