Here’s your Ranch rundown for the Independence Day week of June 30th, 2024:
Tuesday, July 2nd at 2:30pm the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Travel & Tourism (T&T) Board met at Town Hall. The primary purpose of this meeting was for T&T Board members to discuss using lodging tax funds to improve the upcoming farmers market season (here’s a link to the meeting agenda). During the meeting the board met with a prospective candidate to serve as a farmers market coordinator. The board also discussed a marketing and advertising budget and rebranding of the market; the board plans to make a recommendation to the TSVR Town Council on all of the topics discussed.
The Tuesday July 2nd TSVR Roads Advisory Board meeting previously scheduled for 6pm at Town Hall was cancelled.
Thursday, July 4th at 7:30am the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) hosted an Independence Day Celebration at Cedar Creek Park. The event began with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4797 conducting a flag raising ceremony. After the colors were posted, Tammy Gentry provided a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. The VFW then provided a display of past American flags which was followed by recognition of Armed Forces service-members in attendance. Local quilters made Quilts of Honor presentations to two area veterans and a bountiful pancake breakfast was served-up to conclude the morning events. If you missed the SVRA’s 2024 Independence Day Celebration, don’t make the same mistake next year!

Today, Sunday July 7th around noon, I am sad to report that at least three dirt bikes took a spin up and down Cedar Creek Trail #3078. This trail is non-motorized for safety reasons, i.e., the trail is narrow and dirt bikes don’t mix with hikers or horseback riders! Dirt bikes on this trail are dangerous and illegal! Cedar Creek Trail is clearly signed as being non-motorized. These particular culprits were just ignoring proper safety and trail etiquette on our National Forest trails! If you do happen to have an unfortunate encounter with motorized vehicles on our non-motorized trails please take as many photos as you can and report the incident right away to the TSVR Trail Crew. The Trail Crew will notify the Forest Protection Officers (FPO) from the U.S. Forest Service. You can also contact our area FPO, Franklin Jacobs, directly at (307) 368-0519. Thank you for helping keep our trails safe and non-motorized!

Other news and notes from the week:
A heads-up for drivers on upcoming Star Valley road work:
On Monday, July 8th, the Wyoming Department of Transportation and contracted crews will begin chip seal work on Highway 89 between Alpine and Etna.
Also, Lincoln County plans to begin chip sealing of Prater Canyon Road (Highway 116) on July 15th and Perkins Roads (Highway 119) on July 16th.
Water Improvement Project 2023 (WIP 2023) continues with work on replacement of Vista Drive water lines set to begin the week of July 8th. While inconvenient for residents, the town will not pave or dust guard the dirt portion of Vista Drive while WIP 2023 is ongoing. And, to add to the fun, WIP 2023 will be in-process for the better part of the next 12 months. Yikes! That said, please try to keep calm and carry-on as work continues. Thank you!
Lastly, it seems with the summer golf season in full-swing, folks who live in and around the two courses in town are seeing an influx of golf cart bad-behavior. There have been reports of golf carts driving through private properties and/or within the out-of-bounds areas, not to mention minors piloting golf carts on town roads! If there is any doubt, an individual must be a licensed driver to operate any sort of vehicle on town roads (refer to Wyoming Title 31 - Motor Vehicles). Please contact the SVRA if you experience any type of golf-cart kerfuffle. Hopefully, as a community we can come up with solutions to help curb these types of issues in future.
Here’s a look at calendar items for next week:
Tuesday, July 9th has the following schedule of events:
Coffee with the Mayor, 9am at Town Hall
Town Council Work Session, 10am at Town Hall
TSVR Municipal Court, 2pm, upstairs at Town Hall
Town Council Meeting, 7pm at Town Hall
Wednesday, July 10th at 5pm the TSVR Planning and Zoning Board will meet at Town Hall.
Final thoughts—I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day holiday and week! Here at my house, there were lots of patriotic flags flying. Check out these pics! And, yes, I do live with a vexillologist!
