Here’s your Ranch update for the Independence Day week of June 29th, 2025:
The Roundup
It was a fairly quiet week in terms of meetings, although there sure were a lot of folks visiting from out of town based on all the activity on our local roads. That said, here’s a summary of meetings and happenings from the week:
Tuesday, July 1st at 4:30pm the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Water Utility Board (WUB) met at Town Hall. Here’s a link to the agenda and there is also a video recording of the entire meeting you can find here on the Town’s YouTube page. One of the new business items on the agenda was a request from the Town for the WUB to make recommendations on the minimum funding amounts that the Town should maintain in the various water reserve accounts. However, most of the time spent in this meeting went toward going over old business as well as unresolved action items.
Also on Tuesday at 6pm, the TSVR Roads Advisory Board was scheduled to meet at Town Hall, but alas, no quorum, thus no meeting was held.
Last, but certainly not least, on Friday July 4th the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) held their Independence Day Celebration that began at 7:30am with a Veterans of Foreign Wars flag raising at Cedar Creek Park. It was a blustery, rainy, stormy morning but that did not deter a healthy turn-out by hardy Ranchers! Happy Birthday America!

Other News and Notes for the Week
Additional news items and notes from the week:
Road closures and water outages in and around Ridgecrest Drive this week were the result of continued work on Water Improvement Project 2023 (WIP 2023). Please obey traffic signs and closures in this area and thanks for your patience as this project continues over the summer.
On, Saturday July 5th, the Star Valley Ranch Trail Crew was back at it doing awesome work on our local trails. The Crew worked on Cedar Creek Trail #3078 doing clean-up after the heavy rainfall on Independence Day. The Crew reports there are some amazing wildflowers blooming along the trail, so get out there and check ‘em out before they’re gone! Thanks Trail Crew!

Final Thoughts
What a wild weather day on the 4th of July! From about 1pm on, the weather station at my house recorded nearly .6 inches of rain most of which came down in the span of about 20 minutes! Well, if nothing else it certainly has greened-up the lawn! Beyond the unsettled weather, yesterday also brought another official sighting of a Rufous Hummingbird at my back feeder. I’ve been expecting to see these lovely shimmering orange beauties any day now as they typically show up around the first week of July. Some of you may remember I had an early appearance of a male Rufous back on May 10th which is the earliest I’ve ever seen one of these little fellas. Now that “Mr. Boss” is back (a nickname given to the male Rufous by one of my grandsons) I am quite certain the Hummingbird Wars will escalate in no time flat! Battling is just something they do and if interested check out the short YouTube video I’ve embedded below which has some excellent footage of the “air wars” between these tiny birds. In the meantime, I’ll just have to be sure and stay out of their way! That’s all I’ve got for you today—have a great week all!
