From the week of April 13th, 2025, here’s your Ranch news roundup:
Thursday, April 17th at 2pm the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Natural Resources Board (NRB) met at Town Hall. Here’s a link to the agenda. While I did not attend this meeting, one item to note is that the NRB recently voted to provide a $500 donation to help defray travel costs for the two Friends of the Bridger Teton National Forest (FBTNF) trail ambassadors who will be stationed at Grover Park this summer; these trail ambassadors will also be spending time at our local Ranch trailheads. Thanks NRB!
You may recall from last week’s SVR News Roundup the Town Council recently approved a Travel & Tourism Board Lodging Tax grant application from the FBTNF to sponsor these two trail ambassadors over the summer.
Also on Thursday at 7pm, the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) held a Board of Directors meeting at Cedar Creek Center. I participated via Zoom. This was a fairly lightly attending meeting by residents (both on Zoom and in-person). Here are a couple of notes of interest:
Leisure Valley, Inc. (LVI) plans to replace their water line on Green Canyon Drive this year. Sorry folks who live in this part of town as I know you’ve had to endure what must seem like a never-ending string of construction projects many of which have made a complete mess of the road. Note that LVI will have to obtain a permit from the Town in order to dig in the road.
For all of you golfers out there—the putting green will open tomorrow (Monday, April 21st) and the first golf tournament of the season is the Mixed Moose planned for June 20th and 21st.
Friday, April 18th, I woke up to 5” of new snow at my house—Fun!
Saturday, April 19th at 10am, the SVRA hosted their annual Easter Egg Hunt at Cedar Creek Center. I can only imagine the 5” of snow we received the previous day made for a challenging hunt and no doubt a fun time was had by all!
Other news and notes for the week:
One announcement was posted to the TSVR News & Notices webpage during the week advising residents of the upcoming construction project at Hardman Bridge which will require traffic detours. Read the update here.
Also this week, you may have noticed that the asphalt around the manhole cover at the entrance to Town Hall from Vista Drive was finally fixed. Hurray!
And, toward the end of the week, some of you may have also noticed work going on at the old red barn at the corner of Vista Drive and Muddy String to remove the sagging awning on the south end of the building.
Here are calendar items for next week:
Wednesday, April 23rd at 8am, the TSVR Town Council will conduct a work session at Town Hall.
Also on Wednesday at 5pm, the TSVR Planning Commission will hold their second meeting of the month at Town Hall.
Thursday, April 24th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, the TSVR NRB will host a "Certified Nature Mapper" training class upstairs at Town Hall.
If you’re interested in conservation and like documenting wildlife sightings, this class is for you! The course and mapping program are run by the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation who uses the data collected to aide in placing wildlife crossings, encourage wildlife friendly fencing, promote wildlife warning signage, and other types of wildlife conservation efforts. To sign-up for this course, please email “Jessie” at: jessie@jhwildlife.org
If you’re interested, you must contact Jessie to register and receive information on how to download the Nature Mapping Application prior to the class! I’ll look forward to seeing some of you there!
Final thoughts—today is Easter Sunday. For me, it was a quiet day of once again puttering around the greenhouse. I’m quite sure I’m being overly ambitious with my early season plantings—we shall see how all of that turns out. For some of you, I’m sure you celebrated the end of Lenten fasting and perhaps spent part of the day in more thoughtful contemplation. Whatever your Easter Sunday was filled with, I hope it was a peaceful and wondrous day. I’ll see you next week.
