Temperatures stayed cold through the end of October here at Star Valley Ranch and our first November days have been rainy and chilly. There were no scheduled calendar events from the past week to report on, however, to follow are a few local news items and observations for your perusal:
Tuesday, October 31st was All Hallow’s Eve (or Halloween), followed by All Saints Day on November 1st, and All Souls Day on November 2nd. These dates are historically a triduum known as Allhallowtide and comprise three days of commemoration to honor the dead.
Wednesday, November 3rd saw the release of the most recent jobs report from the Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. Seems that from the second quarter 2022 to the second quarter 2023 jobs were up 4.3% in Teton County and a whopping 0.2% in Lincoln County. You can read the rest of the jobs report article here.
A story from this past week’s Star Valley Independent made me smile. Check out the below photo of 14-year-old Jacob Choma from Etna, Wyoming showing his Hampshire Cross Gilt pig named “Lottery Ticket” at the Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) in Billings, Montana (the show ran from October 13th to 21st). Jacob and Lottery Ticket earned the 2023 Overall Grand Champion Swine ribbon and buckle. Read all about their accomplishment here. And this seems like the perfect time to use the words of a clever barn spider from the beloved children’s book Charlotte’s Web—“Some pig!”
A few other news notes for the week:
The Cedar Creek Center may be without water on Wednesday, November 8th for the majority of the day as the Town of Star Valley Ranch replaces a meter and water lines.
The Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) 2024 Proposed Budget and Fee Schedule is available for review at this link. The last public discussion of the SVRA’s 2024 Budget and Fee Schedule will occur at the upcoming Board of Directors Workshop on November 14th (held at Cedar Creek Center).
The Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) billing clerk position remains unfilled with advertisements continuing to run online and in our local Star Valley Independent newspaper.
Last note, I still have not obtained clarity on the status of the potential TSVR ordinance change to limit the number of driveway approaches per lot on the Ranch. I’ll provide an update as soon as I know more.
Calendar items for next week are as follows:
The TSVR Roads Advisory Board will meet at Town Hall on Tuesday, November 7th at 5pm.
The TSVR Planning & Zoning Board will meet at Town Hall on Wednesday, November 8th at 5pm.
Lastly, I was a slacker this week and did not manage to compile an “Around the 307” post with news updates from around the Cowboy State. I did, however, add a new “Uniquely Wyoming” links area on the Close to Home 307 homepage (see the lower righthand side of the page). If you have suggestions for additional Local Resources, Local Eats, or Uniquely Wyoming links please drop me an email.
Thanks for reading! As ever, I appreciate you sharing the Close to Home 307 website with your Ranch family and friends. Email me anytime at: close2home307@gmail.com
