Here are your updates from the past week at Star Valley Ranch:
Thursday, February 1st at 7pm, the Star Ranch Valley Association (SVRA) Board of Directors (BoD) had planned to hold a special meeting at the Cedar Creek Center in order to discuss recent events and changes within the BoD membership. However, after sending a reminder email in the morning, a second email followed in the afternoon cancelling the meeting. The second email stated the SVRA BoD hoped to reschedule the meeting in future. Read the cancellation email here.
While there are no SVRA business meetings scheduled this month, the regular BoD monthly meeting schedule will resume in March.
Overnight on Friday, February 2nd, after a couple of weeks with little more than rain and warmer temperatures, Star Valley Ranch received a welcome 2” to 4” of new snow followed by another inch or two overnight on Saturday (amounts varied depending on where folks live in town). According to Jack Hale’s Star Valley Weather Blog, we are actually having a pretty normal winter in terms of total snowfall. I think for some of us it just seems paltry when recalling how much snow we had this time last year! You can read Jack’s current winter season analysis here.
On Saturday, February 3rd from 11am to 1pm, coat distribution from the Star Valley Ranch Coat Drive was held upstairs at Town Hall. Donations from our residents leading up to Saturday’s distribution event were phenomenal. Unfortunately, there weren’t many families that showed up to take advantage of the wealth of warm-weather items available (although a number of coats did find new homes with those that did come by). The remaining donated items will be taken to a local Star Valley charitable organization this week where I’m sure many of them will find a second-chance to help others.
A couple of other notes for the week:
After four weeks here’s where the Pole Barn Poll (from the January 7th SVR News Roundup) stands. Consider adding your opinion to the poll if you haven’t already by clicking here (the poll is located midway down the page).
With the warm weather, new snow, and what seems to be a cycle of never-ending melty-goodness, town roads have been a little slick in spots over the past week. Be careful out there and keep your eyes peeled for our resident Mule Deer who like to use town roads to move around.
Star Valley Ranch calendar items for next week are as follows:
Monday, February 5th at 1pm, the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Water Utility Board will meet at Town Hall.
Tuesday, February 6th at 5pm, the TSVR Roads Advisory Board will meet at Town Hall.
Finally—I took the opportunity to get out and see Stage 6 of the Pedigree Stage Stop Race in Alpine on Friday. If you and your family have never taken advantage of seeing this premiere sled-dog race, part of which occurs right here in Star Valley, I cannot encourage you enough to take in the event next year!
As I like to tinker around with video from time to time, I put together a short film to try and capture the spirit of Friday’s Stage 6 race from the starting line at Grey’s River Road in Alpine—click below and I hope you enjoy!
