Here’s your Star Valley Ranch (SVR) news roundup for the week of August 4th, 2024:
Tuesday, August 6th the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Roads Advisory Board was scheduled to meet at Town Hall. Unfortunately, the board did not have a quorum, therefore the meeting was cancelled.
Wednesday, August 7th , TSVR’s new Town Administrator, Trevor Aitken, was interviewed on air at the Star Valley Independent (SVI) radio studio. Click here to listen to what Trevor had to say about his new role and the future of the Ranch.
Friday, August 9th the TSVR Natural Resources Board (NRB) Garage Sale for Trails & Parks got underway at 12 noon next to the First Response Center across from Town Hall. The sale continued on Saturday, but had to wrap-up a little early due to afternoon thunderstorms that moved into the area. Unofficial reports indicate the sale made over $9,000! Yeehaw! A big “Thank You” to all the residents and volunteers who made the 2024 garage sale a big success!
Saturday, August 10th the second installment of the Ranch Rendezvous Market was held in the Town Hall parking lot from 8am to 11am. An increased array of vendors participated offering local honey, fresh flowers, roasted coffee, fresh-made baked goods, produce (stone fruits, melons, berries, potatoes, green beans, tomatoes and corn), dairy items (yogurt, milk, and cheeses), and many other hand-crafted items. The Ranch Rendezvous Market will continue every Saturday morning from 8am to 11am through October 5th. I hope to see you there next weekend!

Also on Saturday, the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) held their second Community Garage Sale of the summer starting at 8am. The map of participating homes (showing 16 residences) was down quite a bit from the first Community Garage Sale back in June when some 36 households on the Ranch participated. Nonetheless, I bet folks still found some treasurers out there!
Other news and notes from the week:
As I’m always interested in property tax news, I thought I would pass on this link to a story that appeared in the SVI newspaper this past week. The short article provides a summary (and colorful chart) detailing the distribution of the nearly $69 million dollars in property tax money collected in Lincoln County from July 2023, through June 2024. Ouch!
Recently, damage was caused to the Town’s public roadway (on Green Canyon Road) by a party conducting work there. The party did not seek a permit from the Town before digging and it is my understanding the roadway damage has subsequently been fixed.
The Town has recently filled the position of Building Official (more to come on that in a future SVR News Roundup). Additionally, the Town has also filled the vacant Public Works Director position via the in-house promotion of Zach Edwards. Zach was already serving as the interim-PWD and (in my opinion) doing an outstanding job. Please, take a minute to say hello and introduce yourself when you see Zach around Town.
Lastly, in case you missed reading yesterday’s Close to Home 307 Election 2024 email (summarizing the upcoming August 20th Primary Election ballot for Star Valley Ranch)—you can click here to read it.
Here’s a look at calendar items for the upcoming fairly busy week:
Tuesday, August 13th has the following schedule of events:
Coffee with the Mayor, 9am at Town Hall
Town Council Work Session, 10am at Town Hall.
TSVR Municipal Court, 2pm, upstairs at Town Hall
Town Council Meeting, 7pm at Town Hall.
Also on Tuesday at 6pm, the SVRA Board of Directors (BoD) will hold a workshop at Cedar Creek Center.
Wednesday, August 14th at 5pm the TSVR Planning and Zoning Board will meet at Town Hall.
Thursday, August 15th at 7pm the SVRA BoD will hold their regular monthly meeting at Cedar Creek Center.
Saturday, August 17th from 8am to 11am the third Ranch Rendezvous Market of the season will be held at the Town Hall parking lot.
Final thoughts—the outdoor thermometer at my house read 45.9 degrees this morning. Good thing I put those tomato plants inside the garage last night! Summer would seem to be (if you can believe it) winding down. Mother Nature has a way of keeping us on our toes here in Wyoming. It’s one of the things I love about living here. For now, I shall enjoy all those yummy Glacier and Sun-Sugar tomatoes ripening on the vine! And, I’ll continue to keep my eye on the overnight thermometer!
