Here’s your SVR News roundup for the week of May 5th, 2024:
Tuesday, May 7th at 10am the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Town Council conducted a work session at Town Hall. Here’s a link to the agenda as well as a few notes:
The Council discussed the pending hire of a full-time Town Building Official and the resulting need for reorganization of responsibilities within both the Town Staff and Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Board as a result.
The Town Building Official will be responsible for reviewing building applications and plans, approving and issuing building permits, conducting building inspections, and enforcing Town building codes.
With regard to single-family home (SFH) construction, some ordinance updates may be coming to address temporary certificates of occupancy (TCO) and final certificates of occupancy (CO).
Courses of action for a vacant lot on North Forest Drive where the Town’s road is currently misaligned and significantly intrudes onto the property were discussed.
The Council debated how to address questions and concerns that have arisen over the recently implemented SFH permit fee schedule (now comprised of a $500 fee plus $1 per square foot).
There may be changes to how this is handled, so I’ll give everyone an update once the dust settles.
Wednesday, May 8th at 5pm the TSVR P&Z Board met at Town Hall. You can read the draft minutes from the meeting here. A number of permits (SFH, addition, fence, deck, and roof) were approved and there was also another vigorous discussion regarding the new SFH permit fee schedule. As I mentioned above, changes may be coming so stay tuned!
Also, this past week, the Friends of the Bridger-Teton (FBTN) held at fundraiser at Melvin Brewing in Alpine. The FBTN collaborates with our TSVR Trail Crew and has previously helped fund some of our local trails projects. My husband and I stopped by the Melvin festivities on Friday evening. The venue was packed and the burgers on the menu were amazing! I hope some of you also found time to stop by Melvin during the fundraiser to support our local TSVR Trail Crew and also FBTN.
A couple of quick additional news notes for the week:
In another sure sign that spring has sprung, the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) Aspen Hills Golf Course is scheduled to open on Monday, May 13th. This also means the pickleball courts at Aspen Hills will be open and available for reservations. I know this news makes all you duffers and picklers very happy!
More good news—the Pizza Shack at the Ranch is now open for business at the former location of the Cedar Creek Grill (next to the SVRA swimming pool). The Shack’s business hours are Thursday to Monday 4pm to 9pm. I’m looking forward to checking out one of their pies really soon!
Lots and lots of calendar items for next week as follows:
Tuesday, May 14th has the following schedule of events:

Please consider running for our Town Council and help keep Star Valley Ranch an amazing place to live! If you have questions about running for Town Council, please contact the Town Clerk.
Final thoughts—I think spring may have finally settled in! Daffodils are blooming everywhere and trees are quickly going from drab and bare to glorious leafy green! There are also lots of critters about—like these two who made an appearance a couple of days ago in the woods near my house. So, please keep your eyes out as you’re out and about on Ranch roads! Enjoy the warmth and beauty of spring and I hope you’re out there hitting the trails or getting your hands in the dirt!
