A summary of events from this past week at Star Valley Ranch:
Wednesday, August 23rd at 1pm the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Water Utility Board (WUB) met at Town Hall to continue discussions on water rates. The agenda for this work session can be found here. [Note the date on the agenda is incorrect as this meeting was held on August 23rd not the 22nd.]
Also on Wednesday, August 23rd, the TSVR Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Board held their second meeting of the month. Draft minutes from this meeting can be found here on the Town website.
There is an interesting discussion included in these draft P&Z meeting minutes about a structural modification request for an existing pole barn on residential property. This caught my attention as there have been a number of concerns and issues surrounding the construction of pole barns within the Town over the past year to include pole barns being built to serve as single-family residences (SFR). A stop-work order was also recently issued by the Town for an ongoing SFR pole barn project.
Thursday August 24th the Town issued a mountain lion awareness alert due to reports from residents of sightings in the vicinity of Vista West behind the First Response Center. This is not the first big cat alert around Town this summer. On July 18th a mountain lion was caught on video nonchalantly walking along Redwood Circle.
Also on Thursday August 24th the Town conducted pre-bid meetings for two of the three infrastructure projects announced for public bid on August 9th. These infrastructure projects include replacement of the Green Canyon tank liner, chip-seal on Alpine Way and Ridgecrest Drive, asphalt on Brambleberry Drive, and Water Installation Project 2023. These bid notices (from the August 23rd publication date) can be found under Public Notices at this Star Valley Independent link [refer to pages 18A and 19A].
Saturday August 26th the TSVR held their sixth Farmers Market of the season across from Town Hall at the First Response Center. Once again there was a great turnout by residents and patrons who eagerly purchased an expanded array of items to include locally made cheeses, yogurt and butter as well as produce. A new vendor, Crow Creek Dog Bakery, was a particularly big hit with all the four-legged attendees. Only one more TSVR Farmers Market date before the season ends on September 2nd. If you haven’t already, you really should check it out!

Also on Saturday August 26th the Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) sponsored a Taco Potluck at the Barn. The Association provided the tacos and residents brought along sides dishes and desserts to share. A good time was had by all.
Here’s a promised follow-up from last week’s news email:
The TSVR Natural Resources Board (NRB) “Garage Sale for Trails & Parks” held on August 18th and 19th was a big success! Total sales amounted to $11,210.30 (to include pre-sale items and event sale items). Another job well done by the NRB and all of the volunteers who support this annual NRB fundraiser.
Calendar items for next week include:
Monday, August 28th at 10am the TSVR Town Council will conduct a work session at Town Hall. [The work session agenda has not been posted as of the publication of this week’s news post.]
Wednesday, August 30th at 1pm the TSVR WUB will meet at Town Hall to continue water rates discussions.
Saturday, September 2nd, the final TSVR Farmers Market event of the season will be held from 8am to 11am across from Town Hall at the First Response Center.
