Here are your Star Valley Ranch happenings for the week of May 19th, 2024:
Tuesday, May 21st at 2pm the Town of Star Valley Ranch (TSVR) Natural Resources Board (NRB) met at Town Hall. Unfortunately, there is no agenda posted for this meeting. I can relay tank assignments for the Crop Circles Community Garden have been made and gardeners are anxious to get planting underway. Also, next month the NRB will host the town’s 14th Annual Arbor Day event on June 15th at Fox Run Park (more to follow on this event as the date gets nearer). And, I’ll share any additional NRB information as it comes along.
Wednesday, May 22nd at 5pm the TSVR Planning and Zoning Board met at Town Hall. You can find draft meeting minutes here. This was a fairly short meeting with a handful of permit approvals made by the Board (one new single-family home (SFH), one SFH permit extension, one temporary certificate of occupancy extension, and a roof). Also, to follow-up on the SFH permit fee schedule topic (last discussed in the May 5th SVR News Roundup), for the time being calculations for new SFH permits will be made based on the footprint of the house, not the overall livable square footage.
Thursday, May 23rd was the date when the pond on the Aspen Hills Golf Course was going to be stocked with fish, however, with the snowy weather I cannot confirm if that event occurred—I’ll follow-up and get back to you.
A couple of other notes for the week:
Friday, May 24th was the first day Star Valley Ranch Association (SVRA) Board of Director (BoD) candidates could begin planting campaign signs around town. I have already seen some popping up as of the writing of this post.
Last but not least, you still have time to file as a candidate for one of two open TSVR Council Seats! The filing period runs through May 31st. Here’s a link to the Municipal Offices Application for Nomination form. If you have questions about running for Town Council, please contact the Town Clerk. Thanks!
Here’s a look at calendar items and other events of interest for next week:
Monday, May 27th the TSVR Town Hall will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.
Also on Monday, the SVRA will host a Memorial Day Tribute from 8am to 10am at Cedar Creek Center. Stop by if you can for coffee, pastries, and conversation.
Tuesday, May 28th at 7pm a “Meet the Candidates” forum will be held in the Banquet Room at Cedar Creek Center. This event, hosted by SVRA members, will provide an opportunity to meet and greet the six candidates running for the three open seats on the SVRA BoD.
Read all of the SVRA BoD candidate profiles here on the Election 2024 section of Close to Home 307.
Saturday, June 1st from 5:30pm to 8pm there will be a family-friendly “Get Out the Vote” concert at the Thayne Community Center Gymnasium. This event is for all SVRA members and SVRA BoD candidates. An email RSVP is required if you would like to attend—please email: starvalleybos@gmail.com
Also, Saturday June 1st is the first day you can begin putting out brush and tree trimmings for the annual TSVR Firewise pickup (pickup will occur the week of June 17th). Remember all brush should be cut in lengths of not over 8 feet and placed along the side of the roadway but not in the road right of way prior.
Lastly, there’s a new pickleball league that intends to start play June 1st at the Star Valley Ranch Resort. Established a few seasons ago as the Lincoln County Advanced Pickleball Players (LAPP), please contact Joe Morris by phone at (541) 500-7388 if you’re interested in learning more about LAPP. [Note LAPP seeks players at a 3.75+ skill level.]
Final thoughts—Mother Nature gave winter another go the latter part of last week, however, looking outside now as I type it’s back to being gorgeous! Enjoy the day and remember to save some time for reflection tomorrow in honor of those who sacrificed all in service to our country.
